I've been working in design & marketing for over a decade and love what I do!

blazar design studio started in 2009 with a series of small freelance jobs serving clients in Massachusetts and New York. I expanded my freelance work into a full time studio job in 2016. The majority of my clients are non-profits—many know exactly what they want, and others have me help them figure that out!

"Betsy is creative and professional, and has a great energy. She is a lot of fun to collaborate with."

I have a wonderful team of people I collaborate with as needed—writers, developers, photographers, brand specialists, illustrators, and more. While I promise you'll always work with me, I also know when to bring in additional talent and creative.

PROCESS

I customize every proposal, project and final outcome to meet the specific needs of each client. Below is an outline of my creative process.

1. Phone Consultation or In-person Meeting
It's important to me that I understand the scope of your project, who you are, and what you're trying to accomplish. This initial consultation allows us to get to know one another and for me to understand the scope and any specific needs you may have.

2. Scope, Proposal & Agreement
Following our initial consultation I will send a detailed proposal. This will include the scope of work, project point person, a timeline for the project, final deliverables, and cost.

3. Kick-off Meeting
Following a signed agreement, we will meet in person to discuss the details of your project—what your expectations are and any ideas or thoughts you may have. I consider this a partnership—this meeting is an open conversation, and, because I am a small studio with a limited number of clients, I will focus on you and on the details!

4. Design & Refine
The creative process has many iterations, and the mission of blazar design studio is to deliver my clients exactly what they want, on time and on budget. I am happy to meet in person or communicate via email or phone—each client is unique and whatever works for my clients in this stage, works for me! I value honest feedback: knowing what you dislike, as well as what you love, helps me to move the process forward.

5. Implementation
Whether this means I'm sending a print piece to the printer, launching a website, delivering an online ad to a publisher, or sending you all the formats of your new logo, this is the most exciting part—seeing your brand come to life!

ABOUT BETSY

I began my career at The New Yorker Magazine specializing in page layout, design, and color correction. While completing my Master’s Degree in Graphic Design at the New England School of Art and Design, I worked at a Marketing & Communications firm as their Creative Services Manager. In this capacity I served as the Lead Graphic Designer and oversaw the design and direction of both print and web materials for the entire creative department.

In 2016 I left my job as the Director of Marketing & Communications at Walnut Hill School for the Arts—an independent arts high school for grades 9–12—to pursue my design studio full time. In my 5 years at Walnut Hill I served as the lead designer, and oversaw all of the school’s marketing (social media, website, print and online publications) and advertising (online and print) initiatives.

Specialties have included business branding, marketing collateral, event suites and fundraising collateral. I believe  that each design should reflect the passion and vision of the client—that the process of discovery should inform the final design—and with that in mind I opened blazar design studio in the spring of 2009.

"Brought our vision to life in such a perfect way."

Partnering with Betsy on the full suite of stationery for our wedding was so special.  We wanted to capture the festive elegance of holiday season in Manhattan, and she brought our vision to life in such a perfect way. Betsy was able to keep the look classic, but with a unique twist of chic metropolitan. Throughout the process Betsy was always extremely responsive, very accommodating of our edits, and committed to making our invitations exactly what we wanted.
